Repaint Specialists Serving Utah & Idaho

Every painted surface eventually needs attention. Sun exposure fades colors and breaks down resin binders. Moisture works its way behind failing coatings and causes peeling and blistering. High-traffic areas accumulate scuffs and stains that no amount of cleaning can fix. When it is time for a repaint, the quality of preparation and application makes the difference between a finish that lasts two years and one that lasts ten. Allied Painters Inc. has been Utah and Idaho's repaint specialist since 2006.

Repainting is not simply rolling new paint over old paint. The most common reason paint jobs fail prematurely is inadequate surface preparation. Our repaint process begins with a thorough assessment of the existing coating. We identify areas of adhesion failure, moisture damage, chalking, and surface contamination. Only after diagnosing the root cause of deterioration do we develop a preparation plan that addresses the specific conditions of your surfaces.

Our preparation work may include power washing, scraping and sanding loose or flaking paint, patching and repairing drywall or wood damage, caulking gaps and joints, treating mildew-affected areas, and applying appropriate primers. On homes built before 1978, we follow EPA lead-safe work practices when disturbing existing paint layers. This thorough approach ensures that your new paint bonds securely and performs to its full potential.

Whether you want to refresh your current colors or completely update your palette, Allied Painters handles repaints of all sizes. A single room, a full interior, an entire home exterior, or a commercial facility refresh, we bring the same professionalism and attention to detail to every project. Our clients across Utah and Idaho choose us for repaints because they know we do the preparation work that others skip, and it shows in the durability and beauty of our finished results.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions about our repaint services

Common signs that it is time to repaint include fading color, chalking (a powdery residue on the surface), peeling or flaking, cracking, mildew growth, and visible wear from daily use. If your paint no longer looks fresh or is no longer protecting the underlying surface, it is time for a repaint.

Yes. Dark-to-light color changes require a high-hiding primer and typically an additional coat of topcoat to achieve full, even coverage. We account for this in our estimate so there are no surprises. The result is a clean, uniform finish with no shadows from the previous color.

Not always, but often. Primer is necessary when painting over bare surfaces, stains, high-contrast color changes, or areas where the existing paint has lost adhesion. Even on surfaces in good condition, a primer coat improves adhesion and coverage. We assess each surface and recommend priming where it will benefit the final result.

Interior repaints typically last eight to twelve years with normal use. Exterior repaints in Utah last seven to ten years depending on sun exposure, orientation, and the substrate material. Proper preparation is the biggest factor in how long your repaint will last.

If your home was built before 1978, there is a possibility that it contains lead-based paint. We can perform a lead paint assessment as part of our consultation and will follow EPA RRP (Renovation, Repair, and Painting) Rule requirements when working on lead-containing surfaces.

Exterior paint peeling is most commonly caused by moisture infiltration from behind the surface, poor surface preparation before the last paint job, incompatible paint products, or applying paint in improper weather conditions. We diagnose the cause during our assessment so we can address it before repainting.

Yes. If you want to repaint in the same color, we can match it using a paint chip or by having a sample color-matched at the paint store. Keep in mind that the fresh paint may look slightly different than the faded existing coat until the full area is covered.

Repaints often cost more per square foot than new construction painting because of the additional preparation required. Scraping, sanding, patching, and priming existing surfaces takes more labor than coating fresh drywall. However, a properly prepared repaint delivers excellent value by protecting your property for years to come.
